It has been a while since I have made my last devlog. Mainly because I wanted to focus more on developing the game and less on the devlog since at the moment no one views these devlog posts.
I'm sure once I start marketing the game I will get some eyes but for now it is empty. So what have I done since the last post?
Well, I have redone the code architecture and I have also introduced the new block and color palette system. Different types of blocks like slopes, corner slopes, and also inverted corner slopes for those looking to build cool roofs and other things that include those blocks. I'll be adding round blocks too.
I have introduced the rotation of blocks and also you can fly now. I added block collision detection to prevent you from placing blocks within another. In general, the game is in a much better spot but it is still far from being done or marketable in my eyes.
Today I'm going to mess around with trying out beveled blocks compared to smooth blocks and compare a simple block texture to realistic textures. The goal is to see what would fit the game the best. I may even try to do pixel art-style textures like Minecraft.
I'd have to test to see how the performance goes in terms of VRAM, especially with the infinite terrain generation which I still need to make some performance gains regarding that and many more features and whatnot. It is far from being completed.
The game will be marketed when I feel it is ready to do so. That could be this month or next month. I have no clue but I will create a devlog stating when I feel it is ready. Don't worry though the game is slowly making progress and that is important.
Having these updates gives you a sense of my progress. You could play VSB01 compared to VSB01.1 and compare it to the current version of the game and see major changes. VSB0.5 versions are also very different from VSB01.
Noticeable progress is being made constantly for the game. VSB02 will be no different and arguably the biggest update so far. It will have all kinds of potential changes, and that will require me to not be lazy and put in the work.
We all feel a sense of dread sometimes when it comes to doing things, but once we start working on them, we realize there is no reason to have any dread. That resistance is quite annoying, I find. The UI will have an overhaul maybe allowing different themes.
