Sunday, September 1st Devlog

Updated: Sep 2

Big day and I haven't even worked that much! Well about 4 hours roughly. So I finally fixed the mountain gaps, pretty much fixed the lighting and shadows. I added a basic main menu with working buttons (will be improving this later) and added the sandbox scene with a camera. You can't do anything in there yet but I'll be working on that.

Eventually, I'll add an infinite plane to the sandbox mode but for now it is only a certain size. I think now I want to do a mixture of working on regular mode which is the version with the terrain generation and sandbox mode.

I want to get block placement done and add rivers, lakes, trees, and more to the terrain generation. Block placement, destroy blocks, and color blocks, those all will be a major focus. I will also establish multiplayer for the sandbox mode too and I will get a player actually in the game. Maybe not a player model but a player you can walk around with.

I also need to add collisions to the terrain itself. It still doesn't have any collisions yet and hopefully, I won't have any issues with that. Each block or chunk will have a collision box. It will need to work properly and that might take me a day or two if things don't go smoothly. Of course, I'll keep anyone updated.

That being said I'm so glad I pretty much fixed all those issues as I wanted to make faster progress. I've been developing the game since the 22nd of August.

This coming Thursday will be two weeks of development! I went from super slow terrain generation to very optimized terrain gen and better landscapes plus different block heights too.

I also need to add sloped bricks to the terrain generation as well. Anyway, there will be a new version released today to download on the Itch.io page for you to check out.

Thanks for anyone who is paying attention to these!

Update, I've done more work! I added collisions to the terrain and I also added a player. Still haven't refined the character movement yet. I also ran into an issue with the V10 version specifically the terrain generation sometimes generates massive valleys.

I fixed that issue but I've found another issue. Yes, more rendering issues! I can't escape these, can I? These rendering issues are causing me major headaches because graphics are pretty important.

I'll also need to add graphical settings for the game for people with lower-spec systems. I'm getting fed up with the rendering issues though. Sadly I can't find any solutions to them so far. I'm hoping at some point I will get them fixed.

Until then I will either have to put up with them or get rid of them specifically for the regular mode. Sandbox mode will not have these problems.

I hope I do fix the rendering issues eventually. Graphics are a major part of every game and I want my game to look good.
