Friday, September 6th Devlog

It has been two days since the last Devlog. I had become so busy that I had no time to work on the devlog. I wish I could say most of that time was working on the game but it was not. That being said I did make some progress and a new version release too.

So what have I done? I fixed a memory leak issue. Not sure if I remember talking about this but I also fixed the lighting issues. The graphics look better. I created the environment tab with its functionality. You can change the sun's rotation and enable or disable the day and night cycle.

The day and night cycles work properly, and there are no lighting issues anymore. The main menu and the in-game menu have quit buttons. The controls are displayed on the main menu and in the in-game menu, and some are on the player UI itself.

The major update is that you can now build. It is a bit slow but it works properly and I will be modifying it and improving the user experience as we go along. You cannot color the blocks yet nor pick a color for them. That is another item that I need to get done.

What made the build system harder was that I wanted the controls to be relative to where you are looking. I had an issue with it moving diagonally and then I had to figure out the math to make things work properly. Thankfully I figured everything out and it works flawlessly!

User experience is important and I'd rather not make the mistake Lego Worlds made where their building system was not great. I want the building experience to be a good one and thus I'll be working a lot on improving this. Trust me, I have a plan that should be finished once VSB01 comes out. I will be releasing VSB0.5 today!
